CANARY ISLAND DATE PALM (Phonenix canariensis) Originating in the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. Widely grown as an ornamental tree. Tolerant to cold and drought, and can easily be raised from seed if given heat. Outside it will grow up to 60 feet tall with a 3 foot diameter trunk. Is a favorite container palm with a distinctive spiky, architectural appearance that is great as a house plant. This palm will bear fruits that are orange when ripe. The leaf scars on the trunk form a diamond shaped pattern.
